Tower Insurance and The Douglas Branch of the Royal British Legion launched a poppy display challenge, inviting all of the Islands schools to design a display that depicts and commemorates the end of WW1, the 100th Anniversary in 2018.

A great number of schools took part and representatives from Tower Insurance and Carl Underwood Chairman of Douglas Royal British Legion visited the schools that contacted us to take part to judge a winner. Tower Insurance offered £250 to the successful school with the most impressive display and that school will be able to donate a further £250, provided by Tower Insurance to the Isle of Man Poppy Appeal. Choosing a winner was extremely difficult due to the magnificent detail, thought provoking content and artistic skill from all involved, so much so that we decided to split the award between two schools, Dhoon Primary School and Castle Rushen High School”

“Emmet McQuillan Managing Director commented, Tower Insurance is extremely proud to be able to offer support to such an important initiative. To ensure the memory of those who served in conflicts, especially WW1 as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of its ending in 2018, is important to preserve and I would like to thank all the children, teachers and helpers for their efforts”

Carl Underwood Chairman of the Douglas Branch of the Royal British Legion “ Thanks must go to Tower Insurance for their generous support of such a worthwhile cause. I was honoured and astounded by the work of each and every school, the displays were brilliantly put together and an amazing amount of time and thought had gone into them, picking a winner was extremely difficult.”
