Played mid July at Ramsey Golf Club, Tom eased his way through the two qualifying rounds to the 16 man matchplay stage, as one of the favourites. Playing against some of the Islands top golfers, in the first round Tom played recent island games individual and team gold medal winner Alex McCauley and whilst it was a tight game over the fist 9 holes, Tom eased his way to the quarter finals with a 5 & 4 win. In the quarter-finals, he played first time qualifier Danny Foulis who put up a strong fight, eventually losing to Tom by the same 5 & 4 margin. In the semi-finals, Tom faced 2010 champion and island games team gold medal winner, Darryl Callister. As expected with two high class golfers, a close game ensued with Tom coming out on top to win 1 up.

The final was played over 36 holes and against Island Games Team Gold medal winner Jonathan Corke. A close start to the match over the first 9 holes saw Tom 2up and three under par, which he stretched to 4 up and an excellent 6 under par. Round 2 saw Tom increase his lead to 6 up and being 9 under par for 27 holes. Tom finished the game and became the 2017 Champion on the 32nd hole to win 5 & 4.

Tom remarked "I'm delighted to win my first Isle of Man Championships crown as it's the trophy that, on the Isle of Man, you grow up wanting to win and it has a deep history in Isle of Man Golf with many great champions winning it before me. I am planning on turning professional at the end of this year so will not be eligible to play in the Isle of Man Champs in the future, so it was great to win what was (hopefully) my last ever Championships and to do it by winning a final that was of such a high standard (I was bogey free 12 under par for the 32 holes played, whilst Jon was seven under par) meant a lot to me, especially to do it in front of so many friends and family. As mentioned in my speech when collecting the trophy, I would like to thank Tower Insurance for supporting me through my IOM Sport Aid scholarship; their assistance really helps me get to tournaments or to see my coaches which has been a massive help in the development of my game."

Tower would like to congratulate Tom on his success.
